ROX-TV kicks off the Gathering of the Juggalos 2022 series with a dope interview with DJ Chunk. We talk GOTJ 22, the music, and more.

Welcome to the official start of the ROX-TV special Gathering of the Juggalos 2022 coverage. We will be bringing you some very dope interviews with some of the biggest names in the Juggalo Universe, so keep checking back for the continual roll out. Before we get into tonight’s special interview, I’d like to kick around a few thoughts for context and foundation.

The summer is upon us once again and it’s a magical time of year for the Juggalos and Juggalettes in America and around the world. It’s the season of the Gathering of the Juggalos and once again, the tribe is getting ready to convene for the annual celebration of the Juggalo/Juggalette culture. If you’re down with the clowns, then the chances are, you’ve been counting down the days on your calendar since the GOTJ21 ended. There are few events, even in the Juggalo World that are more important than the Gatherings.

It’s the greatest party on earth for the faithful followers of Psychopathic Records, C17, and the OG Kings of the scene…the Insane Clown Posse. Each year Juggalos travel from around the country and world to be blessed in the Faygo and sounds. It has been said that every Juggalo and Juggalette should make the pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime, but if you know Juggalos, the odds are very high that one trip is never enough.

The Gathering of the Juggalos is unlike any festival or concert you will ever attend, and those who have will swear on a stack of Dog Beats cassettes that this is true. I was lucky enough to attend the first annual Gathering of the Juggalos back in 2000 (Novi, Michigan at the Expo Center, which no longer exists) and I never forgot the performances, the people, and the glory of it all. Back then, I was twenty years old, had been a loyal fan of Inner City Posse and Insane Clown Posse for almost a decade, and had experienced life as a Juggalo while the scene was still growing and evolving.

I knew when the first GOTJ was announced, that I would be there. It wasn’t even a question. It was happening and I was going. I remember heading down to Novi alone, but I didn’t care because I was about to be among thousands of Juggalos at the first “family reunion”. The performances were legendary, the atmosphere chaotic, and above all…I was home among like minded people who had for the most part been rejected by radio, MTV, newspapers, and society. By the end of the Gathering, the Novi Police would be forced to act, as Juggalos created what the media described as a “riot”, complete with some fires in the parking lot. I was there for it all and even added some fuel to fires as the Novi Police swept the lot and forced us to leave. I came away from the experience with some amazing photos (with my shitty Kodak Camera…disposable of course), some war stories, and a renewed sense of identity.

As time rolled on, I got lost in my own life for many years, got married, had a family, and even managed to walk amongst the squares, often times completely undetected. My journey was long and sometimes erratic, but a few things held true for all those years. I never forgot where I came from, I never stopped enjoying the Insane Clown Posse, I was proud of the Juggalo culture which continued to roll on like an unstoppable force…contrary to all the pushback, and most importantly never lost my faith in the music. When my writings eventually took over my direction, I found myself back where it had all began, with the Juggalos and the Insane Clown Posse.

By the time of the last GOTJ (21) I was one book into recording Juggalo Culture and history and well on the way to completing another. The writings took me across the country and featured guest appearances by some of the greatest names in the Juggalo History Books. Violent J of the Insane Clown Posse blessed both books with his words and writing, which proves that dreams really are attainable.

So here we are once again getting ready for the assembly that is set to kick off on August 3rd, 2022 in Legend Valley, Ohio. The artists have been announced and the Juggalos and Juggalettes are loading up the clown cars, tricked out Chevettes, and RVs…all in preparation of the GOTJ 22. At this point, I don’t feel like I need to explain why every Juggalo and Juggalette should experience this grand event at least once in their lives. You either know or you don’t. If you know, the odds are I will see you there. If you don’t, there’s nothing I can do for you and I wish you the best.

Oh yes, I promised that this was the start of the ROX-TV Gathering of the Juggalos 22 series…so without further to do, I introduce one of the dopest DJ’s in the land. You may know him as DJ Chunk and his skills on the wheels of steel are legendary. We are honored to have him with us tonight and we hope you enjoy the interview. Let’s get to it….

Interview with DJ Chunk

July 2022

DJ Chunk and myself at the Gathering of the Juggalos 21 in Legend Valley. We chopped it up while waiting for the golf carts to roll in.

Welcome to the ROX-TV website. We’ve gotten the news that you will be performing at the GOTJ22’s Late Night Party: Axe to tha Dome Pajama and Foam extravaganza. The description on the GOTJ website sounds like a wild time. How are you preparing for this year’s performance? How do you go about building a set for such an event (unless its a trade secret) that is guaranteed to burn the house down?

So, there’s always a lot that goes into mixes for me, I’ll try to imagine what it’s going to be like and what people will want to hear and in the moment being ready to grab what will move people right then!! But it’s definitely been a lot of practice and set building for this one!!

I understand that the Juggalesque Troupe will be on hand during the event. In three words can you describe their presence?

Strong Sexy & Family

What does performing at the GOTJ22 mean to you personally? Could you give us a little insight as to why you think this event is so special to the overall Juggalo Culture and scene each year?

Man, it’s mind blowing to me to be a part of the event again!! I grew up dreaming of going until I did when I was a lil ninja then to think what it is now, and I get to perform there it’s wig flipping to me! For the culture tho it’s the Top, The Mecca!! The underground has a lot of dope music events, but The Gathering is LEGENDARY!

Will there be any surprises during your performance? Or will Juggalos and Juggalettes just have to wait and be there to find out?

So just recently announced, at the Late Night party this year DJ Chunk and ShaggyTheAirHead will be performing our new remix project called  “Moonlight Monster House” and that’ll be played front to back for the family to get wild to!! It’s a really dope project we’re stoked to share with the family!!!

You’re obviously living the dream. Is there one piece of advice you’d be willing to share to anyone who has big dreams but may be afraid to follow their passions?

I wouldn’t call it advice, but this is truth, you got one life.. ONE FUCKING LIFE!! If you want something, you have to take the chance and do everything to make it happen! Shit isn’t free out here and nothing is given but even if shit doesn’t work out you can know you’re fresh as hell for even looking that challenge in its face!!! Go get that shit!!!

I can’t wait to check out the set and seeing you one the 1’s and 2’s. Before we end is there anything you’d like to say to the Juggalos and Juggalettes?

I would like to say Whoop Whoop. See y’all at GOTJ STALEWIND  is THE SHIT Another Day in Hell is THE SHIT Grin To The Grave is THE SHIT and Moonlight Monster House is THE SHIT. Come hit the late-night party and get your wig peeled back MCL
