EDM: Is It Even Real Music? Henry Rollins Bill Burr Sound Off

EDM Is Not Real Music-According To Henry Rollins And Bill Burr
Written By: Sid Jones
EDM music is gaining a large following and some musicians claim its not even real music. In fact, former lead singer of Black Flag speaks on this during his Spoken Word. And I must say, I have to agree with him. Before we go any further, please watch the following video:
“I play other people’s records.” Is one of my favorite lines from the stand-up. And in this 4 minute video, he dives deep into the drug and rave culture. “What came first, the shitty music or the shitty drugs?” And it doesn’t stop there. In fact, the greatest point he brings up is something I mention. Often enough any way. “Where’s the balls? Were you born without testosterone in your body?”
Furthermore, scratching someone else’s music does not make you a musician. A turntable is not an instrument. And I know I might sound like an asshole for saying these things. But as I previously stated I come from a completely different world than what you’re use to seeing on RoxxxTV.
As Johnny Rotten states in Anger Is An Energy. “Lunatics make good music, oddly enough. And they make good paintings, too and write good novels. They just can’t seem to fit into the shitstem,” Well, as you all know I am a raging lunatic with a lot of anger. So, you can either jump on this train or get run over by it. Ultimately, the choice is yours.
Final Thoughts
You will not find me at an EDM show. And that much I can promise. However, my reasons are of my own. Do I think that making music like EDM or DJing is actual music? Absolutely not. Furthermore, drugs are not my thing. And I hear it all the time. “Sid you need to do acid just once, here try these ‘shrooms.” But I will not partake in any of it. Because that is my personal opinion. The drugs are as bad as the music. Not to mention the DJs I meet at these events. One in particular and while I forget his name, I think he’s a pretentious bastard. And much like the majority of the scene or sub-culture, they all are.
As much as we have people on the team that show love and support for the EDM scene, I salute them for it. Well, someone has to. And before people group my articles and opinions with the rest of the team, I say this: Don’t be so damn ignorant. Before all of this, people showed contempt and hatred for me. Guess what? They still do. To them I say: Where are your balls?
