HB The Grizzly goes live with CRB’s “Cruisin The Barrio” show to promote her new album
Welcome back to the ROX-TV website. It’s been a busy time lately and I’ve been getting out into the world to see what’s going on. As usual, I slipped down to Five Mile to role with the Cruisers on CRB’s “Cruisin The Barrio” show. The internet radio station is the home of great music being churned out by my homie DJ Carlito. The CTB cast is top notch and features Eric “The Animal”, A.T. Huck, Lady T, and of course…the one and only Rude Boy. Every Friday and Saturday, you can find them dropping great music at CRB.
The show features a wide variety of what I could only describe as good vibrations. The music featured hits a wide target, which celebrates all the very best sounds and isn’t afraid to get deep. For the ROX-TV readers that haven’t checked out the weekly show, I suggest they do so immediately and catch up on their musical intake.

The great thing about the scene is that the music is drawn from across the years and even now, when I roll with the Cruisers, I get turned onto new and interesting tracks, worth a spin. Not only is the show good at providing classic jams that need to be re-examined for the newer generations coming up, they do an excellent job at providing a platform for independent and recognized artists.
I believe this is the best of both worlds because as we all know, celebrating what came before preserves the journey for the future, while digging new shit challenges the mind and soul to keep evolving. If you think I’m wrong, name me one time the music was so good that nothing ever needed to be made again? Fire up the old cricket machine ladies and gentlemen because it never stops. If the mind considers everything complete and correct, with enough time, that mind is obsolete. What happens to the obsolete things? They get fucking dropped into the landfill of history. Don’t be that person, free your mind and your ass will follow.
So anyway, before I laid down my shiny pennies, I was rapping about “Cruisin The Barrio”. The home of the great, but also on the prowl for new sounds to feast upon. Before the show started at 10pm, I was greeted by HB The Grizzly who was dropping by the studio to be a guest on CTB. We had only conversed over email in the past, so it was nice to finally meet the artist in the real world.
Just as I suspected, she was very nice and was radiating with good vibes. We all had a laugh before making our way in for the start of the show. It was going to be a good night and I knew it. I have heard the Rude Boy say that many times over the last several months and that cat is never wrong. HB was there to rap about her new album “Hibernate” which dropped recently.

As everyone took their seats at the round table, I drifted into the corner of the room to observe the show and take it all in. It felt good to be in the house and I enjoyed listening to the sights and sounds that is “Cruisin The Barrio”. The show is an interesting mix of good humor, homage to the old school, a little words of wisdom, and cutting up the new shit.
It’s the kind of place that has that feel of home and provides the comfort of friendly souls, even for those of us that are all alone. I liken it to a good movie when I’m all by myself, which is rare but does happen. Everyone likes being part of something, even if its just listening to “the something”. I feel bad for anyone that chooses to truly go it alone. We are humans and our thing has always been about coming together for one reason or another. Unity is a powerful thing and when we stand together, we become one, properly. What we choose to do then is our business, but hey, lets fucking do it together man.

I listened to HB talk about her music and the how things have been going for her recently, in between deep cuts of the CTB’s beloved PRINCE. Honoring the man who was a musical genius and definitely a house favorite. Like always, I heard things that had never graced my ears before and I was thankful that DJ Carlito was dropping fire.
After the show had been rolling for a bit, I was able to talk to HB The Grizzly about her music and much more. “It’s kind of crazy I’m here right now, chilling with Rude Boy. Being a kid and knowing about it (Juggalo Universe), seeing the shows, and then to actually start doing something that I enjoy. Making the music and stepping out of the comfort zone….finally getting exposure to the point where I’m actually kicking it with the Barrio. I’m cruising with the Barrio!
“It’s great, actually great…seeing people that you look up to and grown up with. I look at them like Elders. These people have helped me through my toughest times with the music. Music is my favorite hiding spot and Rudy, well he’s part of that (Juggalo) world, he’s been part of everything….part of the Fam”.
HB spoke fondly of meeting Rudy for the first time at The Gathering of the Juggalos, when she was younger. “It was back in 2015 and I was alone”. She explained how she met Rudy at one of the many kick ass seminars they have at the GOTJ. Experiences that allow fans to speak to their heroes, perhaps ask a question. Rudy, the natural born host, was there helping field questions from the audience. (That story will be included at a later date, in the Rude Boy memoir which is currently in the works and underway).
Among many things, HB also spoke about her mother and the life she had coming up with hard times. “My mom was a single mother, raising three kids, and she did everything she could (for the family). My mom is a bad bitch, really smart and capable”. With hard work and perseverance HB’s mom was able to create a new life for the family after moving from Muskegon. “She supports my music” and you can tell that means a lot to HB.

“I grew up as a black sheep and didn’t have many friends. I was the kid that sat in the back of the classroom, writing poetry all day. I listened to metal, but also loved the Clownz and the Kottonmouth Kings (which might have contributed to some early toking and mind expansion). It’s just part of who I am. You can’t just shut the shit off. This is a forever thing, it will always be alive no matter what happens. People will keep it alive….we will keep it alive. The music keeps going. There are still greats to step up and take that scene. The music speaks to a lot of people, if your an outcast this might be something for you. I’ve always enjoyed the strange weird shit growing up”.
As usual, the CTB party kept rolling all night long. At that magic hour of 3am, it was finally time to say goodbye to HB The Grizzly and my crew at the Barrio. Parting is always a bummer, but it’s only temporary, until the next studio get down. Keep an eye out for HB and her music, she’s a dope person and I wish her the very best in whatever she gets into. As for the homeboys at the Barrio….don’t miss out on that dope ass content they drop each weekend. It’s good advice, that doesn’t need to be sold. Until next time….
