Lah Jumpshot chops it up with the readers at ROX-TV. He talks about the new drop “Wicced West Cypher”, new projects, and more.
Can you introduce yourself to the readers at the ROX-TV website and tell them where you’re from/what city or town you are representing tonight?
I’m Lah Jumpshot, southside Oklahoma city born and raised, I rep the 405 till I die!
For the readers just learning about you and your music, can you talk a little bit about your style of music and what listeners can expect when they hear your songs?
I’m a Juggalo (whoop whoop!) I was never a fan of mainstream growing up, I like that raw diamond in the rough sound. I take inspiration from late 90’s and early 2000’s. I would consider my art dark and horror core-esque, but I try to make my own twist on it (and punchlines are still one of my favorite parts of hip hop).
How long have you been rapping and how did you make the leap from being a fan of the genre to wanting to create your own songs?
I been rapping a little over a year and originally I was friends with some underground artists with some buzz. I wanted to learn “how to rap” because I’ve always been the type of person to learn new things and put myself out there. My big homies Maximum Ovrlod and 216zay heard me spit and decided to take me under their wing in a sense, and polish me up. Luckily I skipped a few steps just with them coaching me on the in and outs so those will always be my peoples.
Can you talk about the Wicced West Cypher a little bit?
Most of the verses were recorded during the height of the pandemic, me and my producer (shout out Maddog) made the beat at the time but I couldn’t figure out a hook that would fit well in the pocket, I had already wrote a verse I felt was dope and raw, and didn’t want to part from it, so I hit up a few people in my squad (Wyteout, Rainger, and Crazy Mista D) and the whole goal was to come with a hot verse. Show each other up but still work as one.
Can you talk about the upcoming drop of Doom? I understand it’s dropping on the ninth?
Yeah it’s dropping on the ninth, it’s a freestyle track I did awhile ago but I think it sounds dope. I hope people rock with it.
What can fans and readers expect from you for the rest of 2021 and beyond?
Well I write every day and currently I’m sitting on 2 projects waiting for the right time to drop them. I have enough material where the current plan is to drop a single every month until I feel I’ve built enough hype and drop them.
Where can fans find your music or merch?
My music is on pretty much all major platforms, luckily enough my name is so unique that a google search of “lah jumpshot” will yield all my songs. I’m actually working on merch right now, but I should have an online store soon.
Is there any news you’d like to tease out to the ROX-TV readers? Any projects that you are currently working on?
Two projects are in the pipeline and will drop in the foreseeable future.
Do you have any live shows or events planned?
Covid pretty much screwed everybody in the event marketplace, so until that dies down live shows will probably be a bit slow.
If you could tell the readers why they should check out your music? And what is one song that represents what your all about?
Well, I’m a mishmash of a little of everything and like to put my own twist on it. I’m very versatile. If you want a relatable in your feels song, listen to my track “life”. Want some old boom bap? Listen to my track “boom bap” with Crazy Mista D. Want raw underground? Peep the Wicced West Cypher.
Shout outs: I’m from the 90’s and I’ve always loved the shout out section. Who are you shouting out tonight?
Shout out to Maximum, 216zay, the homies Wyteout, Raigner, Crazy Mista D, Juggalos as a whole, and as always gotta show the love to my day 1’s Lazlo, Steven, Lewis, and my producer Maddog.
Thanks to Lah Jumpshot for chopping it up with the readers at ROX-TV tonight. We will be keeping an eye out for your music and wish you the best on your journey. Well, that about does it for tonight. Please keep coming back for more music, interviews, reviews, and everything in between. Until next time….
