ROX-TV just caught up with California’s own CHUCKKLEZ. We chopped it up over his music, coming up in the 408, and much more.
Welcome back to the ROX-TV website. As always I’d like to give the returning readers a big shout out. Thanks for coming back, we always keep a light on for you. For the first timers, we are glad to have you rolling with us tonight. At ROX-TV we are dedicated to giving the underground a place to be seen and heard and if you’ve been fucking with us, than you already know how we do. We have a special guest in the house tonight, all the way from California, the homie Chuckklez is in the house. So you know how it goes, get out that whip-it tower, a punchy ball, perhaps a few blunts, or a case of your favorite drink…shit’s about to get real. Now, on with the show….
Welcome to the ROX-TV lab, before we get started can you let the readers and fans know where Chuckklez is repping tonight?
CHUCKKLEZ – Yo thank you very much for having me on and welcoming me to the lab my bro bro! I was born and raised in the Bay Area of San Jose, CA and still reppin the 408 to this very day of life.
I always enjoy interviewing the artists out there making it happen for the scene. How long have you been in the game making music?
CHUCKKLEZ – So far I’ve been making music and been on this grind for the past 16 years now. Always keeping it going for the passion and enjoyments of it, because without it, I would’ve been dead a long time ago or had no purpose in life na ming.
I’m often times interested in what exactly inspires artists to start making music to begin with and those pivotal times that influenced your journey. Can you remember how old you were, when music really started to become important to you? What were some of the first songs or groups that got you excited about music?
CHUCKKLEZ – Originally as a youngster I was always into Gangsta rap music since elementary school from listening to the greats like DMX, Tupac, Biggie, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Mac Dre, E40, Wu-Tang Clan, Snoop Dogg etc. Cuz the energy they bring to their craft is what kept me going through tough times, but I first got into Underground music when I was 14 years old back in 2006.

I remember my old homies would send me metal music and horror music to check out and the artists that hella caught my attention from the start were NATAS (Esham, MastaMind & TNT) and Shy One.
The first track I heard was “Headhunter” by Esham featuring MastaMind off of the “KKKILL THE FETUS” album that lead me into NATAS was so fuckin dark and grimy it got me into Horrorcore music to begin with. Later I discovered Shy One’s music and the first song I heard from him was “Damian” off of his EP “The Semetary”. That was the only track that actually scared the fuck outta me hahahaha! But I loved it cuz he has this eerie voice when he sings and that’s what inspired me to listen more.
Once you became a fan, how long was it before you had the idea that you wanted to create music, not just simply listen to it?
CHUCKKLEZ – Around begin 14 years old, I was so inspired by Horrorcore music from each of those artists so much it really woke me to the point I was like “Fuck this music is hella badass, you know what? I wanna start doing this music shit 4real!” Then after that I started writing my own lyrics throughout High school. I finally got the courage to finally record music when I was in trade school at age 19 and met up with my old neighbors brother in law named Mohamed Aniff (who I still work with to this very day) and he taught me the ways of recording music, the “dos and don’ts” of creating music and he helped me begin my journey since.
What was the very first song that you composed? Can you tell the ROX-TV readers what it was like and how it made you feel to be creating your own sounds?
CHUCKKLEZ – The very first song that created and recorded in the studio was called “Mental Patient”. It was one of my darker songs that I wrote and kept for a long time wanted to bring it to the light. The feeling of creating my own music for the first time felt challenging, but at the same time felt amazing to the point I was in my own comfort zone where I can be free to say whatever fucked shit that I can come up with hahahaha! It made me feel creative to have fun with it so in each song I did was by the heart cuz I want my music to be pure to the listeners ears so they can feel the energy from it. Mentally, emotionally, physically and psychologically.
What was the first live performance you gave in front of an audience? Did you experience that “rush” that some many artists talk about when performing live?
CHUCKKLEZ – My very first show that I ever got to perform and open up for was SCUM and Lex The Hex Master when they came down to San Jose on their first day of their “Merciless Assault Tour” at the Back Bar SoFa Lounge. Oh yes the adrenaline rush was REAL when I performed for the very first time. I didn’t felt nervous or anything, but I literally felt possessed when I first started performing in a great way. Cuz it made me be myself to release out the energy I put into my craft and give the audience a show that they need seen before in their own eyes.
You just performed at the Madness and Mayhem show. Can you talk about the experience and how that opportunity came to you?

CHUCKKLEZ – BRO…. Madness and Mayhem 5 was truly fuckin incredible! The impact and the love that the fam down in Texas was like no other and I felt very welcomed in open arms 4real! Shout out to everyone and the LSP fam who came out and slaughtered it up! I hella wanna thank my brotha Nyro the MadMan for having me out there and play at the event and the opportunity he has given me in respects. He and I were discussing about Madness and Mayhem when he came out to San Jose with SCUM on their “The Dying World Pilgrimage Tour” back in August. He approached me with this offer after the show was over and thought I wasn’t gonna be able to go cuz I had another show around that same date it was about to begin. But when that gig got canceled tho, I immediately hit him back up after Gorefest 15 and he signed me on the card. Love you to death Nyro!
Your music and sound has been described as celebrating that wicked horror and sickness shit! For the first time readers and people just learning about you and your music, what can they expect when you hit the stage or they listen to your tracks? I suppose the weak and faint hearted should steer clear of your hardcore sound?
CHUCKKLEZ – Oh my music itself is definitely not meant for those who are squeamish 4real! I always describe my music as Evil Shyt, because in all the topics I spit about is introducing the evils of what’s happening in this world today and some realistic events when people do crazy fucked up shit. My music is very aggressive, disturbing, energetic, graphic and like all in your face type style that will make ya want to go fuckin insane or party to. When they see me at shows in person, they’ll feel every hard emotional vibes that I put into and keeps em going for more. So when y’all bump my music or come to my shows, get ready to enter into the Mouth of Madness hahahaha! 100%
Are you working on any new material right now? Can we expect any releases in the new future?
CHUCKKLEZ – Oh yeah I’m always working on some material that I got cooking up in the office. Right now I’m working on this collaboration full length album with my main brotha and beat producer DJ Lil Sprite called “Horrors From The Unstable” which I’ll be dropping around next year of 2022, I got a couple of E.P.s in the works with several beat-makers and artists that I work with as well so best to keep your eyes open for them cuz their gonna blow your heads off completely!

Lastly I’ll have some new music videos in the works so get ready.
Every journey begins with a few steps, where do you hope this journey takes you in the short term? How about long term?
CHUCKKLEZ – My journey in this music business will continue forever until my lungs collapse. Real talk, I’ma keep on grindin harder independently remain passionate about it non-stop. I hope to travel the world and reach newer heights that I’ve been dreaming about since the start with no regrets.
Before we end this interview, I like to give artists a chance to shout out their people. I’m from the 90’s and the shout outs were always my favorite. Who is Chuckklez shouting out tonight?
