ROX-TV cuts it up with Indiana’s own Psychoetry. We talk about his new track with King Gordy, projects coming soon, video games and more.
Welcome back to the ROX-TV website. I’d like to thank all the returning readers and say hello to any new people drifting in. As always, ROX-TV is committed to the underground and we enjoy giving independent artists a place to be seen and heard. Tonight we are rocking with Psychoetry, who dipped in to cut it up with the ROX-TV crew. So grab a drink, something to roll up, or whatever it is that floats your boat and lets get cooking…
Welcome to the ROX-TV lab. Before we get too deep into the woods, can you tell the ROX-TV readers what city or area Psychoetry represents?
I’m from fuck my city, Indiana
I’m enjoying giving independent artists a place to showcase their music. Can you explain to the readers in your own words, what type of vibe does Psychoetry music have? What could a total stranger expect from your music?
Usually anger or humorous subjects. I like to think of myself as a voice for all the downtrodden, outcast “losers” and I also love to make people laugh.
I dig talking to artists about their music, but I also like to understand where it all started. How old were you when you started to really get into music? When you first took notice and the sounds spoke to you? Do you remember a particular song or group that set it off, if so can you tell the readers?
I’ve always enjoyed hip-hop from a very young age, growing up on Fresh Prince and I remember when Tupac died, I was sad about that (I was 6 at the time) and what really pushed me to start standing up for myself and not take any shit was D 12.
How long did it take before you went from being a “fan” of music, to actually wanting to create your own material? How old were you when you crafted your first song? What can you tell us about that original jumping off point?

I was about 11 or 12 when I started scribbling really shitty verses on all my homework and school notebooks. I’d just use it to vent everything I was angry about.
Got suspended over some of them. My mom didn’t like the stuff I wrote and with it being how I vented, the only way to really express myself, it made me want to do it even more, because I’m gonna do what the fuck I have to do to be happy.
From the time you started creating your own music, how long before you got serious and hit the sound booth to get it down for the record?
About 5 or 6 years. I started a rap duo around the age of 19 with this redneck in Kentucky and he just wasn’t about the rap shit in the long run and we went our separate ways.
When did you take on the name Psychoetry and can you tell the readers about any previous releases you have out in the world? Where can the readers learn more about your music?

I became Psychoetry in 2011. I’ve worked with Jamie Madrox of Twiztid on a song called Middle Fingaz, which was a dream come true. That song is on my last album, Sinner Of The Universe. Anyone wants to know more about my music they can check out my Facebook page Facebook.com/therealpsychoetry, my Instagram the_real_psychoetry or just message me. I love talking to fans or potential fans! It makes my day, when I get messages about how people relate to my music or how it helps them get through shit. That’s why I do this. It helps me vent and in turn helps others going through shit and it all comes full circle.
I understand you are working on a track with King Gordy? I dig that guy and was first introduced to him at Tre Lb’s studio. How did you get into contact with King Gordy and how did this new track come about?
I just messaged him and asked him to do a song with me and we talked and set it up and bam. Another dream come true. My first introduction to him was as Big O in 8 Mile.
Do you have a release date set for the new track?
It’s actually already out! It’s called “Psycho” and you can check out the official lyric video here:
Are you working on any other projects or is the new song part of an upcoming larger body of work?
I have an unnamed solo ep I am working on that’s kinda been put on the back burner, King Gordy and I are now working on a full ep together called Tales From The Darkside (based after the old tv show) and each track is like a different horror story.
Mario or Luigi? Why? And in your opinion what’s the best version or game, regardless of system, that they were ever featured in? I’m thinking of one, but I don’t want to spoil the results.
That’s a fucking tough one. I love them both equally, I think Luigi deserves some more love. I grew up on SMB3 and SMW but I’m absolutely fucking addicted to Super Mario Maker 2. Odyssey was also the shit.
Nintendo vs. Atari? I have both working systems still and I’d like to hear your thoughts on the head to head between them? Favorite game for each system?
Nintendo all the way. I hate Atari lol. Picking a favorite game is impossible.
Nintendo vs. Sega Genesis? Same questions….
Nintendo. I dig the Sonic games on old school Genesis but that’s about it.
Is there any new projects coming in the future or news that the readers of the ROX-TV website should be looking out for?
The Tales From The Darkside ep with King Gordy, and we plan on shooting a video in the near future.
Shout outs: Who is Psychoetry shouting out tonight? Anyone or anything for any reason.

My other half, Shay, for supporting my dream, my brothers Trent and Thomas for pushing me and putting up with my crazy shit, King Gordy for just being an awesome dude and giving me a chance, all the fans who have bought my music and support me, and everyone who said I’d never amount to shit while they hit their meth pipes and live at their parents house wasting away.
Well that’s about all the time we have for this one. I appreciate Psychoetry for cutting it up with us and doing his thing in Indiana. We are glad he cruised by our world for a bit and we will be keeping an eye out for that new project he’s working on. Until next gang, enjoy life, ignore division, and keep listening to music….the language of the planet.
