ROX-TV reviews Darby O’Trill’s video drop for “A Moon Fit For Building Castles Under” featuring Ouija Macc
Welcome back to the ROX-TV website. Tonight, we will be discussing the latest video drop by Chapter 17‘s newest member of the gang, Darby O’Trill. As you all know, I’m a firm C17 supporter. I think that the music they are creating at the moment (as well as the past) is really scorching and that cut above. I think a lot of people place pretty heavy expectations on Chapter 17 and for obvious reasons. This roving band of warriors was born out of the Psychopathic Kingdom, the current reigning kings of the Underground Empire. Nothing short of excellence would be tolerated by Juggalos steeped in the lore and who know the history. It really is a fantastic tapestry at this point, with three decades of activity to look at, ponder, and remember. The stuff of legends.
So, to see Darby O’Trill elevate his game to a point where he was picked up by the best team in the league…that’s pretty radical. The guy was hungry when I first got introduced to him back in 2021. ROX-TV did a feature on Darby and his music. If I remember correctly, we did a pretty deep dive on some of the work he had been doing with Devereaux, Shaggytheairhead, Ouija Macc, and beyond. Darby had come up in the Florida scene and like any proper Juggalo, started making some serious noise. This is another great example of a guy who kept his nose to the grindstone and made the sacrifices that his dreams required to come true. That’s a beautiful thing. Knowing that there is a lane to accension, that type of slide gives me hope and it should inspire others who are thinking of jumping into the industry. There is something magical about standing on the line…and the dude to the left of you or the girl to your right, jumps out and smashes a home run into the stands. That energy is contagious. Spread it around. (Check out the April 16th, 2021 interview with Darby O’Trill following the link below)
For me, 2021 was a very busy stretch of road, but I always go back to things that I value. I knew I wouldn’t be hearing the last of Darby after that first interview. The guy was working too hard not to get noticed. ROX-TV caught up with Darby again later in the year, on October 1st, 2021 for another interview. He had recently been signed to LSP (Lyrikal Snuff Productions under the direction of the Gorefather SCUM) for the “experimental drugs project”. The Underground is vast and exspansive…with different tribes and vibes. The LSP Family is well established in the Underground and for Darby to get noticed says alot. For people watching this cat rise, he was hitting all the right notes.
That second interview is really good as well and we talk about projects, the music, moves with Devereaux and Shaggytheairhead, and the happenings over at the LSP Camp. For anyone who missed that interview, I strongly urge you to follow up and get hip. Darby gives well thought out answers and it shows. The Turn
So, with all that out of the way, the real reason we are here today is obviously to review the video drop for “A Moon Fit For Building Castles Under” by Darby O’Trill featuring Ouija Macc. Again, the stoners at ROX-TV are happy for Darby and wish him well at C17. I think I can say we are all expecting great things from this fighting unit and if the first video is any indication about what’s coming…I am happy with that. So bust out the tray, roll out the tank, crack the cooler…. shit man, whatever you have to do, to get ready for the transmission. Let’s move….

Right off the bat, I’m picking up those sad chords. It has that feeling where everything is fucked up and even if things are tolerable for the day, the bad news is lingering like death…wafting out of the woods. Growing up in the 1990’s made me pre-disposed to this type of sound and feel. I have no other way to describe it. I like that gloomy overcast vibe…it reminds me of that darker Seattle Sound, ladened with smack and the “going down the drain life”. This type of music is hard to duplicate as far as the emotions and realness required to actually sing and rap in an authentic way. There has to be some rough times experienced to even be in the head space to create that type of music.
The visuals are so gripping. The classroom, the dead end living room from a slice of nightmare decaying suburbia, and then there are the Ghosts…which I respond to in a big way. The reasons are my own, but its the type of imagery that I can sit back and blow an ounce. The delivery between Ouija and Darby is smooth like a 90’s old school weed track. The tone is nice, the sounds roll, and it has everything you need and nothing you don’t. Master Class Style.
I don’t want to over analyze three minutes and for this review I don’t need to. It has what I want, nothing I don’t, and above all things…..the fucking song is good. It’s not just the beat, not just the toss back, not just the packaging, and not just the lyrics. It’s the whole Fleetwood Cadillac, without the stolen hood ornament…..right? It’s a tight piece and when it’s great, there isn’t much to really say. I like this video for what it is, what it reminds me of (on three different levels), and what it means looking towards the future of C17.
Final Rating:
4 lines of great snow…out of 4 lines of great snow
BUY THE NEW SHIT TODAY! Well technically it’s not today. Shit, it’s not even this week I don’t think. I was reading Faygoluvers the other day and they had an article about the C17 signing and the new drop “Creek” which I believe lists the release date for July 23rd, 2023.
