RAW Reunion: WWE Desperate For Ratings

WWE RAW Reunion Show Proves They Are Desperate For Ratings
The RAW Reunion show was a melding pot of cringe and disaster. And in all honesty, the company has been in hot water for some time. But, 2019 is not being so kind to them either. So, the question remains: what kind of shape is the WWE in now? Well, after last night it’s very easy to tell. And in order to fix the mistakes (if that’s even possible) it will take some creative thinking. Possibly, a miracle.

Last night, we saw a bunch of legends return. Kurt Angle, Stone Cold, The Hurricane, and others. But, if you put the RAW Reunion show side by side with the RAW Homecoming in 2005, the difference is obvious. See, in 2005 the WWE was at the graduation level of the Ruthless Aggression Era. Wrestling fans rant and rave about the Attitude era, but they never give credit to two amazing years in wrestling. And we saw a little bit of a potential last night for this to happen.
The 24/7 Title (a modern day PG hardcore belt) was won by Kelly Kelly. And I would have to say that was a temporary glimmer of hope. In 2006, ECW One Night Stand we saw an Extreme Rules mixed tag match. And it was glorious. The Raw Reunion show however, was an attempt to bring back fans for a few weeks. Knowing the fans who stopped watching would tune in out of curiosity. A female wrestler holding a watered down hardcore title? DAMN!
The Whole Dam Show

Another issue fans have with last night is the way Kurt Angle was treated. He’s not old and his retirement match at WrestleMania this year was the worst send-off in the history of the company. Fight me. And that was only months ago. So, why couldn’t we get any build up for a Summerslam match? Or, maybe have Kurt still look like a champion and less like Sgt. Slaughter? They grouped the Olympic gold medalist with Hall of Famers that are fit for the nursing home. And that’s no disrespect. But, it looks bad for Kurt.
RVD made a return, with his eyes blood shot red. And that got a pop from the crowd. But, that was about all he contributed, minus a Frog Splash. Instead of each wrestler having their “moment” they were grouped together in ways that didn’t make sense and rushed out into the ring. However, everything you have read so far is only the beginning.
According to some of our sources, Head Creators/Writers were all fired, following the events of last night. Which means creative ideas will be coming from either Vince himself (God help us) or Triple H. Neither of which are ideal. But, this just goes to show you that the WWE is in boiling water and it will take a lot to fix this. In order to do so, they need to go back to the drawing board. Literally.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the show last night had a few moments. And they quickly faded. I remember when I started watching wrestling again. Just before the invasion angle, I tuned out completely. Until 2005. And it was the night of the WWE Draft. My friend from high school told me that it was, “the perfect time to get back into it.” Well, in my eyes he wasn’t wrong. And I stopped watching again in 2014 when the Undertaker was defeated by Brock Lesnar. And don’t even get me started on that.
The WWE Brand is in serious trouble. And it’s unfortunate. I was a fan since the 90s. Hell, I grew up watching Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Macho Man etc. I guess, we need to wait another five or years to see what the company does. After all, prior to last night they were worried about ticket sales. And I cannot remember the last time I ever heard of the company worry about ticket sales. The only worry they had when I was an avid watcher, was the WWE Network buys.
Nope. No thank you.
