Ladies of The Industry: Finchy of MBE
In the first of what i hope is an empowering and long series of motivation and stories from the ladies in the industry prospective, the first lady i wanted to shine light on is a women who is doing more than most in this industry today: Jamye “Finchy” Finch of Mad Boy Entertainment, MBE for short. You can catch this lady behind the scenes setting up shows, interviews and handling business for her many artist she handles as a manager at MBE, or in the streets handling promotions, selling merch, networking and making the many things the Mad Boy artist possible. Jamye with her two anchors of MBE Mak Loo and Richi Rasta have blown up the local Detroit and downriver music scene for almost 2 years now as a dominant force, laying the ground work for them to move around today. Each with their own perspective and way to handle things they became a great team and a local music identity that you might want to think twice about messing with.
Mad Boys Finchy hails originally from the Holt, just south of Lansing, MI. She moved to the Downriver area in 1999 where she stays till this day, as a result of the move and love for music she stumbled upon and was introduced to Mak Loo in 2014. “I started originally working with IMF records as a A&R representative under a local ‘promoter'”. After some time with IMF, Mak Loo asked Jamye to become his manager and they have been working ever since. It wasn’t until 2016 they started Mad Boy Entertainment named with family in mind. The m coming from Mak Loos son and the AD from Jamyes two sons of her own with a dream of them together taking over the label and making the Mad Boy name timeless. “We started hosting our own shows to give local artists a place to showcase their talents, while also building a strong crew and bringing larger acts out. We have brought artists such as Ice Wear Vezzo, Doughboyz Cashout’s Big Quis & Payroll Giovanni, and Neisha Ne’sha to perform with us and give exposure to local talent “. Finchy is a woman of many jobs and talent who is a super lady in the music industry but also a super mom in her personal life. She is a mom of 2 growing teen boys who, with her, are strongly involved in the River Rouge Jr Panthers Football organization. She is currently holding the role of the Varsity Team mom. With all this going on it’s a wonder how she does it all and handles it, but here is a sneak peak of how she does and an insight to who Finchy is and what she does at and for Mad Boy Entertainment.

So before we start with the serious and real questions we are gonna go jeopardy lightning round . lol
Do you drink or smoke and what’s your favorite strain or drink ?
My go to summer drink is so mom like… Not your Father’s Rootbeer.. also a big fan of Long Islands, Vodka/Cranberry and Pina Coladas
I recently just found out the answer but just to confirm, single, taken or complicated?
I am taken.. sorry boys 🙂 lol
How has life changed for you since diving into the music industry or has music always been a passion of yours?
My life is much busier.. but I wouldn’t change it. I LOVE IT!
We heard your boyfriend is an amateur wrestler. Do you like wrestling (WWE or local) or do you just happen to date a wrestler? lol.
I met Atlas Hytower during a local show at River Rouge because my oldest son Antonio loves wrestling and wanted to go. I use to be a huge professional wrestling fan when I was younger and my dad and I use to go and watch. Now I am just supporting the local scene and wanting to see everyone achieve their dream.
What music do you listen besides Mad Boy artists and do you have a fav on your playlist right now?
I am all over the board with my music. Everything from everyone in the Mad Boy Crew, to Salt N Pepa, J Cole, Jeezy, LL Cool J, some country and my kids are into heavy metal right now, Metallica mainly.
Old school or new school ? (preferred music)
I am an old school girl.
Drop your top 5 in your playlist right now
I have so much more then just 5. I can’t narrow it down to just that. My top plays are: Mak Loo Makaveli CD and all of my Mad Boy crew-Yung Swagg and Teop-Side Bitch, DG and Odinn-Ion Pull Out, Richi Rasta-Sliter God, Nesto100K-Main Goal, Kidd Clutch-Lil Baby
Now onto the nitty gritty real questions……..

So, Jamye you are the artist manager, marketer, talent scout and you book, plan and set up your own shows. You are a woman of many hustles. The grind must never stop for you. How do you not get lost in your many different titles and balance the scales to have time for them all?
It’s a never ending cycle and definitely a challenging one. Between trying to get our shows put on and be the best possible, to getting the Mad Boy artists additional shows, interviews, magazine placements, etc. The hat definitely gets moved around a lot. I think in a way it helps to have my hand in everything. You really get to see all aspects of the industry and see what works and doesn’t work. Not going to lie, at times I need a map to navigate my life!
Besides being a super business lady you are a super mom. How do you have time for both ?
I am super strict with schedules and plans. I am sure my crew and my boys both hate me at times because of it. But without a schedule there is no way I would be able to do everything. My kids are also part of the music business attending meetings and video shoots with me.
As a lady in the music industry with all the new female faces of music in the spot light and in the offices using fake personas to promote, grow and achieve their success, how do you feel being a woman building an empire without a persona and just being yourself? Does this help in the industry or make you a threat to the game as an up and coming female running things ?
I am so happy to see so many women now working in the music industry! This is definitely a good time to come out, however at the same time, it’s 10x harder for females to become successful in this industry. Either as an artist or behind the scenes. I will never change who I am just to conform to the industry. I personally think if you change your morals and beliefs you only hurt yourself and your company in the long run. People will see you are you and want to work with you. Trust is a major part and if you come out fake you will never be trusted.
Have you run into any challenges as a woman with artists, venues, promoters, or businesses that you feel was because of your gender or is Michigan’s music industry a level playing field for anybody regardless of gender if they hustle and put in the work?
There is definitely discrimination being a woman in the music industry. Most of the artists and venue owners are male and have the old school mentality of only wanting to work with men. I honestly think they are scared of a woman who has power and knows what she is doing. Hopefully this will change in the future for all the upcoming women in the business.
Do you feel as a business woman in the music industry you can accomplish things over the course of time that changes things for the next generation of young ladies aspiring to do what you’re doing and an example of how an independent record label should be run?
I sure hope so. I can only do what I feel is correct. Change is always good and sometimes much needed. It has to start from somewhere and you have to have people believe in you to have a change to take effect. The best advice I can give is just be yourself and do what you feel in your gut is right.
So Mad Boy Entertainment with your diverse and talented line up of artists anchored by heavy weights in the down river music scene and movers in the entire scene the one and only Mak LooCiano Mak Loo and Slither God Richi Rasta, how did you and your artists gain so much momentum in such a short time for yourselves?
That’s simple.. we have talent and dedication.
How does it feels to have expanded the roster of MBE in the past years to cover such a wide variety of styles from a female r&b artist to old school flows all the way thru modern day mumble rapper D.G. Savage and experimental acts like Lil Odin’s music?
It’s exhilarating. Mad Boy can please anyone in a crowd. That is what makes a team great, we all support one another and know that we can go anywhere and rock the stage.
We know Mak Loo dropped his new cut Friday 4/20 MAKAVELI with huge anticipation. Can you tell us your favorite track or tracks from the album?
Hands down .. “Face Off”.
MAKaveli is available on all platforms for download and streaming! Spotify, Amazon, Google Play, ITunes, etc.. if you haven’t gotten your copy.. hmm why J?
What artists on your roster are currently working on a project or about to drop something new?
Right now every artist is working on their own projects coming out by end of year along with a Mad Boy Mixtape coming out late summer 2018.
If you could pick an artist, one local big name and one national act you would love to see work with you and your artists?
Locally I would like to see a collab with Sada Baby. Nationally you could never go wrong with the legends Nas and Jeezy.
Do you use in house production and engineering or go to the studio with pre-made beats and are you open to new producers and artist or is your roster full for now?
We do both. We have Lil Odinn and Teop in our crew who make beats and produce. We have worked with Doc Hollywood Hustle, Tone Rizzo and ATM Krown and many others. We are always open to new avenues.
Are there any last words for the fans or advice for ladies in the industry, artist, producers, managers, and inspiring business ladies?
Support your artists. If you can’t make it to a show, share their pages, talk about them. Buy a ticket. Do what you can to help your friend achieve their dreams. Ladies, just be yourself. You have talent, let it shine! Don’t fall to the industry and think you have to conform. Be professional, polite and know your business. This will all help you.
