Sabaton Awarded Certificate Of Excellence

Sabaton Is Recognized By The Michigan World War 1 Centennial Commission
Written By: Sid Jones
Sabaton is a heavy metal band from Sweden. For those that aren’t familiar with them, they have lyrics based around wartime and history around the world. This was one of the things that naturally, drew me into their music. As I have said before, I love history.
I have always believed, the further we look into the past, the further we’ll see into the future. We’ve seen films from Steven Spielberg, Clint Eastwood and others.
What some haven’t experienced, is listening to history. Through guitar and drums. I was first introduced to Sabaton through a co-worker. He was from Macedonia and loved all genres of music. We were in the kitchen and I asked him to play some music that he liked. His IPOD played through and I wasn’t feeling some of his music. Then I heard, “Throw your soldiers into position, which there is no escape. And they will prefer death, to flight.”
Yes, that gave me chills typing that. Imagine, hearing that? For the first time? A woman’s voice? It grew from there. The guitars playing right after and then a drop. It’s truly a mental image you will soon never forget.
I told you that story to share with you the impact the band had on me. One song made me a lifetime fan. That’s no different than the majority of our readers and the artists they listen to. All it took was one song. Well, I guess I wasn’t the only one that truly appreciated that song.
An entire World War 1 Centennial Commission has recognized Sabaton for their lyrics and their teachings through music. One of the songs mentioned by name on the award? Price of a Mile. The song that I was introduced to.

One of my all time favorite songs was Primo Victoria. This song wasn’t listed by name on the prestigious award. However, it’s content is not so obscure. The song is about D-Day. For those that don’t know what that is, this was when soldiers stormed the beaches of Normandy on the 6th of June, 1944.
Sabaton talks about infamous battles and the loss of lives. Some that have been popularized by film and television. Their most obscure work just happens to be about battles we weren’t taught in school. Making them the perfect recipients for any historical award. They deserve the praise and acknowledgment.
We encourage our heavy metal and hip-hop fans to give Sabaton a listen. Don’t forget to tell us what you think down below. You can congratulate them yourselves at the following links:
