JonPaul Wallace Gives Us A Glimpse Into His New Album ‘Clarity’

JonPaul is a singer and songwriter from Detroit. He is currently signed to the critically acclaimed and applauded record label, Zen Bulldog Entertainment. A label that is stationed in New York City.
From what I understand, only 70 people in the United States have heard the album, Clarity. This listening party took place in the Motorcity. Listening parties provide an opportunity to gauge the reception of an album, or even an EP.
Here’s what struck discovering that this wasn’t just in the United States. Listening parties for Clarity were held all around the world. That’s when I knew I had to check out this album.
I was given permission to check out three songs from JonPaul’s Clarity. I didn’t know what to expect, nor did I have any anticipation for what the songs would hold. The style, the content was unknown to me.
With that said, let’s get into my previewing of the new JonPaul Wallace album.
You Should Know
I was wearing my earbuds when I listened to these three songs. Am I glad I did. The beat and the production goes from one ear and slowly blended all together. The first five seconds was an interesting sensation. A smooth, jazz/R&B sound.
The lyrics were direct and to the point. A message that we can all connect with, on some level. Instead of the usual, break-up or revenge song, You Should Know is more clever and calm. A great way to vent and be more methodical, before reacting.
I have to be honest, this isn’t usually my style of music. I did however, appreciate and enjoy listening to this song. JonPaul brought everything to the table with this song. This track was easy listening and unique, beyond anything I heard before.
The song has a twist in it, you just have to listen closely. About third listen, I had finally gathered the message in it’s entirety. You will too.
Blame It On
I’m not sure what order these songs will be in. However, I think this is the perfect follow up track. You Should Know is the rational thought and reaction to a break up. This song is about taking responsibility and accepting the consequences.
I thoroughly enjoyed this song. Again, the production was clean and this time the beat had drops in it. I would have to say that if I had pick which Clarity song was my favorite, Blame It On has to be it.
There’s always someone in our life that has blamed us for something. Validated or otherwise. JonPaul teaches us how to handle and deal with these kinds of people. A perspective we may not have considered.
So far, these songs had really impressed me. Again, I was curious without expectation. I’m aware that some of our readers may not take to this album right away. Trust me, you’ll wish you had.
Used To
Acoustic and quiet. That’s how the song starts. Oh, was I glad I saved this one for last. It just added to the build up and anticipation. The melody harvested and increased, only slightly. Then, the entire jazz club beat broke out.
I could visualize a live stage from the 60s. I’m a fan of Chuck Berry, Louis Armstrong, Tony Bennet, and of course, Frank Sinatra. Used To brought Clarity from a similar Detroit sound to a different generation. A voice of the past, present and future.
One of the things I appreciate is the range an artist or group has. It’s 2018 and this is something that is truly going to shake things up in the music scene. I can sense the crowds and venues coming together for a completely different movement.
This song needs to be featured in the third season of Luke Cage. Harlem Paradise would be the perfect set for a live performance. Especially with combination of the jazzy beat and the lyrics.
JonPaul’s Clarity is officially released, listen to this song and watch the first season of Luke Cage. Then come back and tell me I’m wrong.

Verdict
As I have previously stated, this isn’t my usual listening. I bounced back between which three songs I enjoyed most. Only then, did I remember that Clarity is a full length album.
Will I be purchasing it? Absolutely. This needs to be on my CD case next to my copy of D12 Devils Night Reloaded mixtape and my Last American Rock Stars self titled album.
This is the voice of a new generation. Not only do I believe underground fans can come to love this style of music. I truly believe that this is what is making mainstream labels shake and tremble. The next big thing to have happened to the music scene is here. It’s JonPaul’s new album, Clarity.
I encourage you to check it out and give these songs a chance. Believe me, you won’t regret it.
