Glass City Punk Rock Night Full Review

Glass City Punk Show In Toledo Proves Punk Is Alive And Well

Written By: Sid Jones

Glass City punk. It’s alive! With bands from Chicago and Detroit, punk is more relevant now, than ever. I have the pleasure to report to you, my personal experience. And when a fan smashes a glass bottle on the ground, you know you’re at the heart of it all. However, there was more to this show than shattered glass and a circle pit. For me, this was the best concert of the year, thus far. And there will be more in the future, I promise.

Punk rock is a huge part of who I am today. Bands like The Germs, Dropkick Murphys, Sex Pistols, and Bad Religion all played a roll. Mainly, it’s the lyrics and the philosophy behind them. Now, there are other bands that inspire me and give me things to think about. Bad Assets from the Motor City and Squared Off from the Windy City. Stay tuned for those interviews, because they are a cannot miss. And there’s another man that I got to talk with. Erik Kinny of Loyal Nine and he’s shared with us his experiences and influences.

So far, this is the highlight of my 2019.

The Scene Isn’t Dead

There’s a saying that is thrown around a lot. And that statement is: punk’s not dead. But, is this true? Well, after this show and talking with the fans and band members, this is simply not the case.

Is punk dead? Glass City Punk Rock Night 2019

And there’s a series called Punks on Epix that talks about the wave of music. However, they aren’t talking about the bands keeping it alive today. That’s why I’m walking down this path. And last night, I never felt more at home.

I was 15 when I went to my first punk show. The genre has grown so much in that amount of time, especially in the underground. Glass City Punk Rock Night was a showcase of working class men tearing the roof off Longhorn Saloon. And we have the footage for you, coming soon!

Final Thoughts

I really think the bands that performed at Glass City Punk Rock Night should go on tour with bands like Street Dogs and Dropkick Murphys. Because, I’m really selective in the music I listen to, I can honestly last night was an incredible lineup. If you ever have the chance to see these guys live, I encourage you to do so. The show last night was only five bucks to get in.

I’ve always said, don’t just support local acts, support GOOD local acts. The bands poured their heart out into the crowd. And they gave it back. With beer and shattered glass.
