Clown Motel Offers B-Level Horror Fans A New Take On Comedy

Clown Motel is a film that for me, didn’t make sense at first. And for avid horror fans, this is film is worth checking out. However, don’t focus on the film at face value. The commentary is on today’s modern society, with over the top characters. What’s more, the film offers a decent gore factor and the makeup is well done. Beth Jones did an amazing job as did the rest of the crew. With a small budget, they really did put everything they had into making this a reality.
With that said, there are a few things that didn’t quite fit. The major hang up I have is with the soundtrack. The songs didn’t quite fit with the tone of the film. After watching the film back a couple times, I couldn’t figure out why horrorcore is being played, during the montage of the kids smoking weed. When you watch it, you’ll see what I’m talking about.
Now, the film has horror all over it. But after watching it, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a dark comedy. So, don’t expect jump scares at every turn. Instead, think of the film Stitches with a Devil’s Rejects outline. The cinematography was good and the violence is great. Tony Moran also plays a roll in the film, which I thought was a great addition.
Final Thoughts
This isn’t a high budget film. But, don’t let that get in the way of a good time, hanging out with friends. Clown Motel is one you should watch with your friends. You’ll laugh, have discussions on it and have your own appreciation for the movie. Some may refer to it as a “So bad, it’s good” movie, but I never liked referring to movies like that. Stiches for example, is a dark comedy that if you go into it, expecting horror you may hate the film. In the case of Clown Motel, it’s about perspective.
I’ve never graded a film on RoxxxTV. So, it gives me great pleasure to award this film a B- for it’s comedy. However, the makeup and gore (without plot) gets a solid A. Who doesn’t like watching clowns killing people? Bonus, it adds to the re-watchable factor.
