Classic Rock Top Ten Greatest Bands Ever

Classic Rock Top 10 Greatest Bands Of All Time
Written By: Sid Jones
Classic Rock is more than a genre. It’s a legacy. Hence, the word classic. So, what is my definition of classic? Well, it has to be a well known band, with a history of well known songs, and/or albums. And if you disagree with my choices, be sure to write me on Twitter @mtswordfish. But, I think people may actually prefer this list to my others. So, share this with your friends and make sure you stay up to date with our weekly podcast, every Wednesday at 4:20 pm EST.
I would also like to thank our sponsor Party Masters for this top ten. Whether you need audio and visual equipment for a podcast, radio show, gorilla journalism, or you’re just hobbyist. Party Masters has everything you need. Be sure to check them out and tell them Sid Jones sent you!
With that being said, let’s get into it.

Warrant
Cherry Pie to ths day is one of my favorite songs, ever. It has been made famous in several shows and movies, including Supernatural. However, the band has a history of tinkering with grunge music as well. In 1995, they released Ultraphobic, which did lead to the decline in popularity. But, you can’t dispute their impact on pop culture in today’s world. Whether you call it glam rock, or grunge, they are a classic rock band. Period.

The Scorpions
This German rock band remains, one of the most notable bands in music history. They are in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, and it’s no surprise. Considering their music videos, albums, singles, and compilations went gold, platinum and multi-platinum in over 200 countries. Rock You Like A Hurricane remains one of the greatest hits. A few months after it released, it went multi platinum. And, decades later, it was featured in the hit game Guitar Hero 3.

AC/DC
Classic Rock has given us one of the greatest bands of all time. And everyone has a song they like from AC/DC. Not to mention, they’re one of the most referenced in literature and in film. Highway To Hell, You Shook Me All Night Long, Hells Bells, TNT, among many others. And did I mention that their logo is one of the most recognized in the history of music? Classic hits that have withstood the test of time and that’s what makes something classic. It only gets better with age.
7

Queen
One of my favorite bands of all time. Again, this is my top ten and if you don’t like it you can write you’re own. But, this band incorporated a lot of great hits with a punk mentality. And this is well depicted in the film Bohemian Rhapsody. My mother introduced me to this band and ever since I was a kid, I was hooked. But, I don’t think I need to talk much more about how great this band is. However I will give you a fun fact. “Disney acquired the North American distribution rights to Queen’s catalogue for $10 million, and remains the group’s music catalogue owner and distributor in the United States and Canada.” You’re welcome.

MC5
Now, this one is the most controversial I’m sure. Simply because, a lot of people would consider them punk. And guess what? I consider them CLASSIC punk ROCK. So, I’m counting it. Again, it’s my list. And according to classicrockbands.net they are considered classic rock. So, I’m going to allow it. And if you don’t like it, let me know on Twitter @mtswordfish. My all time favorite song is Motor City Is Burning. And for many reasons. If you haven’t heard it, I suggest you check it out. Plus, I can listen to this band’s discography front to back.
The debate on what genre they are is why they are at my number six spot. See? I’m fair.
5

The Rolling Stones
Welcome to the top five portion of this list. And if you’ve made it this far, you deserve a participation trophy. And of course, credit for being informed before leaving me hate comments. Now, why do I have The Rolling Stones at the five spot? Because of their legacy and the influence they have on modern music. Arguably, one of the most covered songs is Paint It Black. And that song debuted in 1966. And this article is being written in 2019. So, if you’re reading this in the future, please let me know if this song is still being covered.
4

Alice Cooper
Now, we’re at the point at the list where it’s a tossup. And for good reason. These are the bands that have had the most influence in the industry. However, Alice Cooper remains one of the most legendary. Inspiring the likes of Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie, just to name a few. School’s Out is still one of my favorite songs to this day. And since it’s release in 1972, it has a lot of controversy and incorrect translations, making it legendary. His stage performances raised the bar and often, imitated.
3

Creedence Clearwater Revival
The illustrious career of CCR has left it’s mark in music history. All four members quit their jobs to make music and push themselves to the very limit. Eventually, they would perform at Woodstock, but wouldn’t be featured in the film, or soundtrack due to a “subpar performance.” However, their music continues to be played on the radio and featured in films. Fortunate Son being their biggest hit has been covered by Dropkick Murphys and several others. Not to mention, featured in several films and documentaries.
2

KISS
Quite possibly one of the most popular bands of all time. The band’s name is still subject of rumors pertaining to alleged hidden meanings. And these rumors are claims that the name is an acronym for “Knights in Satan’s Service”, “Kinder SS”, or “Kids in Satan’s Service”. Gene Simmons still denies these claims. What’s more, this band has two official logos. Since 1979, most of the band’s album covers and merchandise in Germany have used an alternate logo, in which the letters “SS” look like the letters “ZZ” backwards.
And what sells more than controversy? KISS merchandise. Not only were these rock stars unmatched in stage performance. This New York City band have a legacy that will live on forever.
1

Ozzy Osbourne/Black Sabbath
Now, you can’t tell me I’m not a crowd pleaser. Both Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne belong in the number one spot. Pioneers of Heavy Metal music and living legends, look no further. And if there’s ever been a band to overcome obstacles, Black Sabbath is certainly one of them. The album Paranoid, originally titled War Pigs is just one example. And when Ozzy and Sabbath parted ways, it lead to a full fledged take over. A legacy that cannot be duplicated. And of course, two classic rock bands that will forever be remembered as arguably, the greatest of all time.
