Krizz Kaliko Leaves Strange Music Underground Implodes

Krizz Kaliko Leaving Strange Music Opens Old Wounds
Krizz Kaliko parting ways with Strange Music to me is not breaking news. In fact, I continue to beat on the drum of backing the artist and not focus on the label as a whole. However fans seem to take a different direction and adopting a different perspective. I don’t need to dive deep into it, but for the sake of transparency and honesty, I’m going to address the elephants in the room. And believe me, there are plenty of those.
Not too long ago, the request was made that I step away from the underground music scene. Despite my love for the scene and the hatred for the drama, the underground will always be home. While Krizz Kaliko is in fact, parting ways with Strange, for some reason there are talks and references made to other underground labels. Majik Ninja Entertainment is just one of the labels being brought up online. With the recent departure of Gorilla Voltage and rumors of the industry changing, it doesn’t come at a surprise.
The question is, “What does Krizz Kaliko leaving Strange have to do with the rest of the underground scene?” The short is; Absolutely nothing. The reason why people aim for siding with labels over artists is beyond me. I don’t care what label the Dropkick Murphys are signed to. Obviously other fans seem to have an interest in the underground label politics. And that’s not entirely their fault.

Small Minds Discuss People
One of my favorite quotes of all time. And it rings true. For some reason we enjoy gossip and rumors. Admit it, you clicked on this article to hear about Krizz Kaliko leaving a record label. Not only do I not care why Krizz left the label, I care even less about the politics of Strange Music. Unfortunately social media makes it nearly impossible for people to mind their own business. And the truth is as a species we really don’t want to, do we?
In all fairness, yes the record labels bring it upon themselves for fans to speculate, wonder and debate. They tend to go public with a lot of things, rather than just keep things in the shadows. You don’t get to show someone your skeletons and change your mind later on. On the other hand fans shouldn’t be so concerned with these issues. But the days of enjoying music are essentially dead in the water. No one listens to music without wondering who’s who, what label their on, their associates and so on. What label is Iron Maiden on? Without using Google. I will wait.
Truth is, the underground has become extremely petty in that sense. Look at the drama within the Juggalo community. The same community that helped really give Tech N9ne a boost. Not to say they “created” him but they certainly helped his career. The Juggalos are constantly at war over Majik Ninja Entertainment drama and some are even doing it maliciously. Did the entire label deserve the scrutiny? Absolutely not. While fans continue to say, “Its all about the music.” And turn around with, “This label is failing.” Or my favorite. “This label has nothing going on right now.”
You have nothing going on right now.

The Underground Stands Divided
At this time, I want to address something that no one is saying. No record label is perfect and not a single artist is without some sort of imperfection. And to the reader, you’re no saint either. Odds are you’re reading this with a clinched fist and angry thoughts running through your mind. Good. Because that rage should be directed at you and you alone. The music industry in a complete crisis as a whole and you worry about a “roster?” Not only does this not make any sense to me, its embarrassing.
If you like the music, listen to it. And if you don’t want anyone else knowing you listen to it, put on headphones. Enjoy your guilty pleasure and maybe go online, buy a Psychopathic Records hoodie and find Son of Sam from Krizz Kaliko to add to your CD collection. I urge you as a fan to simply enjoy the music. Not liking someone because someone else has issues with them is foolish and ignorant.
Final Thoughts
I don’t know why Krizz Kaliko is leaving Strange Music. I wish him nothing but the best in whatever he does. And I will always have love for Tech N9ne’s music that I do like. Because I’m not the biggest fan of all of his music. But the songs I do like I listen to constantly. Straight Out The Gate, Slacker, Hope For A Higher Power, Horns, Beast, Einstein, and so on. But he’s not my favorite rapper of all time. And I’ll be completely honest, I’m not a fan of every single Kaliko song either. But I’m not going to be the journalist that digs for the “full story.” Because that will only further bring drama and nonsense to the underground.
I hope this article shined some light and gave you some perspective. My boss will probably ask me to remove it, but I promise you I will not do that. I stand by these words and you can criticize it all you want. Share it with your friends, hate on it and whatever else. If you got love for me, then salute me. If you got hate for me then shoot me.
