Kurt Sutter Fired Mayans Season Three Is Confirmed What Now?
Kurt Sutter is the topic of discussion as of late. And that comes as no surprise since Disney fired him from his own show. However, season three of Mayans MC is confirmed. But what happens now? Before we go into detail, I want people to understand that this is not an article praising the decision to renew the series. Instead, I will going into the issues with Disney and their history with ceasing creative control from creators. So, I guess I should give you a disclaimer: My words will not be so kind.
After hearing about the news involving Kurt Sutter, I went ahead and started watching Mayans MC. So far, the show exceeds any and all expectations. In fact, the show is better than Sons of Anarchy in some ways. Regardless of how people may feel about Fear The Walking Dead and the inability to connect with the characters. I feel as though Mayans MC has characters you can connect with. If you’re one of the ones that decided not to watch the spinoff to SOA you’re missing out. I thought the same thing and I think the show has a lot of potential and key factors in becoming a success.
With that said, Disney firing Kurt Sutter is a pussy move. They can’t handle constructive criticism nor can the multi billion dollar company take chances or be bold when it comes to entertainment of any kind. But people still go and see the Marvel movies, Pirates of the Caribbean, and so on. Even though they have a history of overseeing projects and tearing away at creative freedoms. They didn’t fire Kurt because of how he was treating people on set. Which is what they want you to believe. Rather it was Kurt’s defiance and unwillingness to cooperate with the fascists in suits:
“Bottom line, I created the circumstances that led to my being forced out. I overestimated my value and underestimated the unfuckability of the mouse.”
By getting rid of Kurt Sutter, I fear that the show will suffer from being watered down. Disney has a long history of stripping away creative control from the ones that mastered it. Remember when the Insane Clown Posse had to revisit Great Milenko? That was Disney. And when you listen to the two versions the ICP and Disney versions, they aren’t that much different. Which tells me it’s about Disney being in control and impeding on people like Kurt Sutter.
Here’s another problem. Kurt already has ideas for a SOA prequel where we get to meet John Teller and the early days of the MC. But Disney owns that too. Along with that, Kurt also has ideas for an Abel and Thomas series. But because Disney is keeping all of his work, we will never see these projects come to light. Because Disney has no dignity and simply wants to rob people of their creations and slap the mouse on the cover of it.
Not bad for a company that constantly puts subliminal messages throughout their movies and marketing. Stay classy Disney!
