HB the Grizzly kicks it with ROX-TV for a one on one interview about the music, 2021, and much more

Welcome back to ROX-TV for another great interview from the underground. Tonight we are talking with one of Michigan’s own…HB the Grizzly is in the house and we thank her for taking time out of her busy schedule to chop it up with the readers at ROX-TV. As most of you already know, we enjoy giving Indie artists the space to connect with fans and people interested in the music. So grab a chunk of hash, roll a few joints, whatever it is you need to do to find that relaxed space and lets get to it…

HB the Grizzly, as you know, I’m a big fan of how things get started especially with the artists. In my life, there was a point where music started to manifest and become a whole other thing for me. That time when I went from being aware of music, to really getting keyed in and developing my own tastes and likes. Can you tell the readers at ROX-TV when exactly that moment was for you, when music started to become important to you? Why?

Well music has always been there for me. I started singing at the age five and it’s embedded in my DNA. My parents are both artists in their own way. My father especially, he was an amazing guitar player and vocalist, so music has been important to me my whole life. I grew up around music.

For our first time readers, can you tell them what city or area your representing?

I’m originally from Muskegon (Skeetown) MI. I live in Metro Detroit now, but I always rep my hometown. Can’t forget where I started.

At what point in your life did music go from being something you were into, to something that you decided you were going to get involved with and start making? Can you talk a little bit about those early years…

It wasn’t until 2018 where I decided to gather my pride, I had a broken heart and sick mother so I reached for music as an outlet. I felt like I had nothing left to give, gain, or lose. Music saved me, I mean that strongly. The first song I ever wrote was “Stay Woke” and I spent six and a half hours at Maybury Park writing that piece. It ended up being one of my most well known songs.

Once you became a “creator” of music, how long did it take you to realize, “ok this is something I can do and do well” ?

I guess the first time I stepped on a stage at an underground show the feeling of being heard and having people listen. That was the day I knew I had to put my message in a bottle and continue this journey. When my words failed, my music spoke. Like I said though, I started this music as an outlet for everything I was going through and with music I wanted to remind people that they weren’t alone. I knew I could always write and do music, in fact I used to sing for the Detroit School of Rock in 2010. After graduating I was hardened by life’s responsibilities so I put the mic down. I then picked it back up in 2017 and It was the best decision I ever made.

Are you currently working with any record companies or like so many others of this “new” era, opting to stay independent? If so why?

I wouldn’t say a label but I’m on a team known as Shrunken Head Entertainment. We are a powerhouse of amazing talent and as far as my royalties, “teamshe” doesn’t take from any of that. We just help build each other up and succeed together. So it’s like being independent and making your own moves but having a team to back you up, help educate you, and build you. We all work together and support each other’s visions.

For the first time readers and people new to your music, can you give us a brief description of what has come out to date? Singles, videos, whatever you’ve done to get you to the “now” time.

I dropped an EP a year ago called “Wake Up” this is introducing the beast within. Everyone has a beast inside, it just needs to wake up. Since my release I have done over 25 collaborations with local and out-of-state artists. I have been featured on Netfest, Gathering in the Matrix, and Attack of the Ninjas in 2020.I dropped my first music video “Venomous” on Netfest and I had so many great reviews. Other projects I have recently dropped, one of them was my song called “Stay Woke” and with Lex The Hex Master it was remastered on his EP Party Castle, the song is titled “Sleep at Night”. You can also find me on his EP Haunted Mansion that was released shortly after Party Castle. I have done so much in such a little time and it’s just the beginning. I’ve been at this for only 2 1/2 years.

I’ve heard news that you will be performing at a music festival in April….Can you give the readers a brief run down of what it is your doing? How that opportunity came to be?

Well I heard through the grapevine that they were looking for more artists and I noticed that there weren’t any females that have hopped on yet. I felt the need to reach out to the promoter to get a spot. I believe a friend of mine reached out to me asking if I was interested. It’s been a year since I’ve performed a show in Michigan so I was like “why the hell not!” The set won’t be too long, but I make sure that even with one or two songs everyone will remember me when I step off that stage.

Are you currently working on any new tracks/collabs/records at the moment?

I’m working on collaborations with Cody Manson, $moke, Keenchin, and King Torch currently. I should be dropping another LP here VERY soon but I like to keep everything a surprise. My LP will be going more in depth about my first EP. It’s a prequel of my first EP “Wake Up.”

Can you tell the readers at ROX-TV what 2021 and beyond looks like for you as an artist?

I have a lot of great things in the mix for this year. I like to keep everything a surprise so if anyone is wondering what’s next for HB The Grizzly all I can say is, “stay tuned!”

Is there any news in regards to your music that you’d like to tease out or let the ROX-TV readers in on?

With waking up we must be asleep first, if you enjoyed my first album get your ears ready for this next project. I offer versatility in my music, this next project will be able to reach out to different genres and all kinds of people.

As always, this is the spot where you get to drop those old school shout outs, like we did in the 90’s. Who are you shouting out tonight?

Shout out to TeamSHE, Tre LB, Stir Crazy, IDzILLEAGLE, Dirrty B, Godsynth, Lex The Hex Master, Neglected Noise Records, ROX-TV and MNE but most of all shout out to my people and fans. I wouldn’t be anywhere if it weren’t for all of you and the continued support. Much love!

I’d like to thank HB the Grizzly for coming chopping it up with the readers at ROX-TV tonight. I hope everyone had a good time and maybe got turned onto something new, if they hadn’t already been digging the dope sounds from my homegirl HB the Grizzly. I hope she comes back in the future to kick it with us again. We support the undergound at ROX-TV and that includes the females, getting out there and doing their thing! Please keep coming back to ROX-TV for all things interesting. Until next time….
