The Flint Town connection featuring the legendary Project Born should be an exciting track and I eagerly await to hear what these two powerhouses have mixed up in the pot. #2 HB The Grizzly talks about her new video “Manic Inside”.

I love the Manic Inside track, was there a particular reason that you picked this song off the new album for a video?

I feel that the biggest battle anyone could ever fight is the one within their head. I represent the beast that dwells in each and everyone of us but at the end of the day we are all still human. My music is built off life experiences that pushed me to move forward. That’s why this song means a lot to me.

What is the inspiration behind the song “Manic Inside” ?

Not to go into too much detail, but I was naïve five years ago and forced friendships and relationships with people that weren’t meant for me. You never realize how alone you are when you are all you have to lean on. You are the only person you trust to confide in. I battled with a lot of emotional turmoil and after overcoming who I used to be I finally stood up for myself. But some people like to see you down because they think you belong there. What I realized is that you are you’re own worst enemy when all is lost. This song explains that you aren’t alone because I felt it, lived it, still overcoming it.

Struggling with ideas in your head is a tough one, because you can’t ever escape yourself and no one can really help a person deal with the pain and ordeal of life. The video captures you at various locations, which almost seem symbolic of these “battles” that can rage in a person’s mind. Did those ideas help you pick out locations that you thought could represent the feeling of the track “Manic Inside” ?

Well the graffiti walls and tunnels show that you have two paths to take. You can be at a crossroad sometime when you’re given a life changing decision. The red light symbolizes when you feel betrayal you can feel anger and impulsive. When we did the disco ball scene I wanted to capture black and white to resemble loneliness in a room that should be crowded with people, being alone in your mind. Looking up towards the light to show you need to find your light again. Now, the railroad tracks were my favorite location. This represents how someone could feel suicidal and comfortable in their own darkness. I wanted to express every emotion in this piece.

Was the video shot in Michigan? Also, what can you tell us about the video making process?

The tunnels were in Plymouth MI and it’s a little hidden area in the back of the woods. The other shots were taken in Trenton MI. Anytime you’re shooting with ROXTV it’s always a great time. Bob Rox is a visionary, and he’s very strategic. Of course we had a blast kicking it, smoking it up and him capturing my ideas.

Now that you have another video to your credit, what does the near future hold for HB The Grizzly? Plans for shows coming up? New Material recording?

I have more visuals coming after Manic Inside I’m keeping it hush hush for right now. The only clue I’ll give away is it’s an HB The Grizzly and a few people from TrifeLife. I also have a few other collaborations coming out with Keenchin, SheWolf, & Madd Maxxx. A few shows coming up Cleveland Bash 3 on June 19th and I’ll be on the Cody Manson tour June 26th & 27th, Nastie Bash Weekend September 18th. I was just recently asked to do a show Grant Us Eyes Release Party August 6th & 7th in Pennsylvania. On top of the visuals and collaborations and shows I have more exciting info to drop!!All I can say is keep a look out.

I heard that you’ve been doing some appearances on the radio recently with “Cruisin The Barrio” Internet Radio show at CRB on Five Mile? How has that experience been?

The Barrio is family to me. I have a great time every Friday night sitting back relaxing, vibing with wonderful people and listening to the greats. Not to mention it’s been an educational experience as well listening to the backgrounds of these artists I’ve only heard a few times growing up. I suggest everyone to tune into CRB radio every Friday night at 10 o’clock. We share laughs, stories and jokes. Come cruise with us!

#3 Izz2nice sound preview for “Run from me” and upcoming shows

Next up is my homie from Detroit Izz2nice. From time to time, I get to preview the hood horror that he cooks up. The most recent sneak peak includes the track “Run from me”. As you all may or may not know, I’m a junkie for Halloween themed raps and intros. This platter starts out with a dope ass skit which I wish more people were doing. They are a good chance for artists to showcase the depths, and I really like the one on this bomb track.

As the track rolls on, the subject matter is a perfect fit for my mood when I want a double dose of music and horror flicks. I like the direction this cat is rolling down and as he develops his hood horror, he will sure to make some serious noise. As soon as a video becomes available, I will make sure that it gets a run on ROX-TV. As for now I can only enjoy the sneak play of “Run from me”. Keep an eye out for the track and this artist.

Besides the news about the new track, Izz2nice has some movement on the show front. He’s got two gigs coming up soon and if your in the area, you better do yourself a favor and check them out. The first show coming up is an exciting joint which will also include the  legendary Cleveland homie from Bone Thugs, the one and only Layzie Bone.

The show is set to kick off on Sunday June 13th at the Berlin Street Lounge located at 17316 W. Seven Mile, in Detroit. The show pops at 5pm and the mad fresh music won’t stop until its done.

There is a second gig jumping off with Izz2nice playing at the “Jazzie nononsensethepoet’s Comedy Show and Pool Party”, going down on July 3rd at 8391 E. Outer Drive. It will run from 5pm to midnight. Call Jazzie for info and tickets at 248-508-2094.

#4 From across the pond, D Hooks

My homie from London just hit me up about a brand new video he dropped with Pee Johnny called “Love for the streets”. I’m always happy to hear from D Hooks and the sounds that are bubbling up from the scene half way across the world. I think that it’s always a good thing to have a more global perspective on the underground, wherever it is going down at.

I like this video because it takes the viewer on a visual journey into the world of D Hooks and the streets at night, where all things good and bad go down. The clips roll by as the beat bounces, and creates a nice continuation of D Hooks environment for all to see. As with Halloween themed tracks, I also like viewing the “City” at night. There is something mystical about the city laid out at night, and whether its a neighborhood in Denver, London, Detroit, Flint or beyond…it always captivates me. I dig this video because it catches the essence of the street side view and I thank D Hooks for sending me a copy to check out. If you haven’t opened up to the world wide sound of underground hip hop and rap, please do so. On some level I think we all have more in common than what separates us. When we all come together, shit…the new day will emerge. Shout out to D Hooks and Pee Johnny across the pond. Cheers Mate.

#5 Skribbal drops the video “The man who fell from the sky”

As many of you know, I’m a fan of history and when you know it, people can’t really fuck you around as much. With that being said, I always love a dope track which features historical events or real life situations that went down way back when. I often will tell people that real life is so much more interesting that fantasy, because it really happened. Which brings us to the new video drop from Skribbal titled “The man who fell from the sky”. If that doesn’t ring a bell, than I will fill you in….”D.B. fucking Cooper”.

On November 24th, 1971 a man using the name “D.B. Cooper” hijacked a Boeing aircraft, demanded he get paid a fat balance of two hundred g’s, then vanished like a virgin on prom night (he parachuted out of the plane in midflight with the loot and was never seen or heard from again. Till this very day, the case is the only plane hijacking in the United States never to have been solved…or so the story goes. Because of the implied success of “Dan Cooper” caper, the story has captivated people from around the world. I guess any time we don’t know the whole story, especially when it was a good one, humans will be driven crazy trying to piece together the puzzle.

Although no trace of the jumper was “ever” found, in 1980 an eight year old boy named Brian Ingram found $5,800 dollars in rotting money along the banks of the Columbia River, which was matched by serial numbers to the original ransom payout.

The video by Skribbal is dope and so is the killer track he dropped to boot. I watched the video several times and I enjoyed it just as much as the song. Like I said, I dig smart music and this is a nice example of that. A song that entertains and has a little knowledge to kick is always going to rate high in my book. Well done Skribbal! The video dropped on YouTube and has quickly grabbed up almost four thousand hits in the last three days. To say it’s moving would be an understatement. Watch it today.

Well, that’s all the time we have tonight for the “News from the underground”. Keep checking back to ROX-TV for all the latest media sneak previews provided by some of the dopest artists in the underground today. Until we meet again…

Mike Shepard
