The annual “Prince Purple Party” is going down this Saturday in Hamtramck. Come on down and dig the scene.

Welcome back to the ROX-TV website, where we support our locals artists and establishments all year long. Tonight I have some exciting news to share, especially if your a Prince fan. I’ve been informed that the annual Cruisin The Barrio “Purple Party” location has been announced along with other details for the annual tradition. In the past, the party has been held all over the country, from places as wild as the Gathering of the Juggalos, on the West Coast in San Francisco, to Cleveland Ohio.

Yes ladies and gentlemen, the show is finally coming back home to Michigan, Trixie’s in Hamtramck to be exact. As the legend goes, the annual Prince celebration party was started by Southwest Detroit’s favorite son, Rudy “Rude Boy” Hill some sixteen years ago. The Rude Boy started what many in the area consider the “original Prince party” because he was celebrating the man and music, long before his untimely passing in April of 2016.

Prince, who had achieved international fame at the time of his passing, had released almost forty albums, and was known for his overdrive work ethic. At the time of his death, it was rumored that he still had a large collection of unreleased projects and videos tucked away in a vault. During his lifetime, it is also rumored that he wrote somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 to 1,000 songs, using both his own name, as well as multiple pseudonyms. Prince was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 7th, 1958. By the age of 19, Prince had signed a record contract and began his march to everlasting stardom.

The Rude Boy has been going strong with this tradition for over a decade and a half, and as his son DJ Carlito got older, began helping his father with the annual show. Rudy “Rude Boy” Hill and DJ Carlito are some of the biggest fans of Prince I have ever met, and if you ever run into them, you will no doubt catch a glimpse of some Prince “Ink”. This year, the party will be going down at Trixie’s Bar, located at 2656 Carpenter in glorious Hamtramck.

The party is officially called the “Prince Purple Party” and all those that attend are encouraged to wear purple clothing in order to help catch the vibes and celebrate the man and the music. This year DJ Carlito will be dropping the dopest sounds in town and festivities (and smoke) get rolling at 9pm. So get a baby sitter, dust off your dancing shoes, and bring your funky self down to Trixie’s for a night of great music. The Cruisin the Barrio crew will be on hand with ROX-TV all night long. Don’t miss a chance to unwind in style, this Saturday at Trixie’s. We’ll see you there…
