ROX-TV’s continuing coverage of the “Gathering of the Juggalos 21” keeps rolling. Tonight we take a look at Project Born.
Welcome back to ROX-TV’s continuing coverage of the “Gathering of the Juggalos 21”, where we take a look at the artists and groups slotted to play at this year’s historic party in Ohio. We have been waiting patiently with the Juggalo world to find out the lineup and on Tuesday night, the Insane Clown Posse and Jumpsteady announced the block busting list of performers on social media. I knew it was going to be impressive, but I had no idea the sheer magnitude or vast reaching freshness that was coming our way. ROX-TV decided to keep a running coverage series to examine some of the artists performing this year, which we led off with the “Dog Beats, Inner City Posse” segment a few days ago. Tonight we keep the ball rolling and are extremely happy to announce and talk about another group that got tapped to perform at the historic Gathering, none other than the Flint Town Rap Legends: Project Born.

Project Born has been pushing the envelope for the Flint Town sound for three decades, delivering non-stop all along the way. Their back log of finished product stands as a testament to what kind of performers and artists they really are. Going back to the early nineties, Project Born exploded on the scene with the devastating and wicked “Losin It” single, which featured the Godfather of Acid Rap and Detroit Underground Royalty, none other than Esham.
Once “Losin It” dropped, things would never be the same again. Frank Nitty explained “Once we did “Losin It” in 1993, we was underground regardless. We didn’t have a choice at that point, once we worked with Esham and dropped “Losin It” people was like, ya’ll underground” (quote taken from “Forever in the Jects” book, released July 7th, 2021)
Based on the strength and energy from that single release, people started to pay attention to the music that Project Born was making. Violent J of the Insane Clown Posse talked about his first encounter with PJB’s music when he travelled up to Wyatt Earp Records in Flint. Violent J, during the course of being interviewed for “Forever in the Jects” said “we took our product up there one day and they told us about Dayton Family and Project Born. They said those were the two hottest things happening. At the time Dayton Family had an ep out and Project Born had a single out with Esham. The single was called “Losin It” and they couldn’t keep it in the store….know what I’m sayin….they were flying out. That was so dope to us” (Page 115 “Forever in the Jects”).

Project Born would eventually be signed to Psychopathic Records, the very first group to do so in fact. Once Project Born joined forces with the Dark Carnival, it was on. The world would be introduced to the devastating “Born Dead” EP in 1995, which featured a Juggalo favorite called “Graveyard” featuring Project Born and Insane Clown Posse. The recording has been featured on Forgotten Freshness (1998) and maybe one of the greatest songs the two groups ever worked on. I’ve said it before and also in “Forever in the Jects”, but I am convinced that it is impossible for these two titans of the underground to make a song that doesn’t bang.
Project Born and Insane Clown Posse have been homies since day one and have dropped some other fire songs over the years including the dynamite track “Fuk with Me” off of the Born Dead 2 album, which dropped in 2008. But there are others as well, including “Techniques and Tactics” and “Round Here” off of the Born Dead 3 album, which hit the stores in 2019. For me personally, “Round Here” is a track that captures the same greatness as “Graveyard” and maybe the one song capable of dethroning the 1995 masterpiece, for that coveted number one collab spot between the two camps.

The history between the Insane Clown Posse and Project Born is really amazing and highlights what lasting friendship between homies looks like. PJB is down to ride with ICP and ICP is down to ride with PJB. It’s been on since the 1990’s and nothing has changed. The Dark Carnival and the Project Mob are an unstoppable force, and the world will get to see both groups killing the stage at “Gathering of the Juggalos 21”.
I recently got a chance to chop it up with Polk D from Project Born about the Gathering of the Juggalos 21 and was able to ask him some questions about the historic Gathering fast approaching. Here is what my homie had to say about all the fresh news:
Interview with Polk D from Project Born
We have received some exciting news today that Project Born will be performing at the historic Gathering of the Juggalos 21 in Thornville Ohio. Can you tell the readers, what it means to be performing for the Juggalos again and sharing a stage with the Insane Clown Posse and many big names?
Performing at the Gathering is always special to us…Being able to rock in front of the family is the best feeling ever.
With damn near thirty years of music, it will be hard to pick out a performance set. Will Project Born be performing new material or mixing it up with some of your best known Juggalo anthems?
Man we gonna take it all the way back on up to our newest shit. Gonna be a fire set fa sho.
What is the message to the Juggalos from the Legendary Project Born, hailing from Flint Michigan?
We love you all and we thank each and every one of you who’s supported us throughout all these years. Just know that we got a lot more in the tank so keep riding wit these PJB Assassin’s.
I understand that you’ve just released “Forever in the Jects” which is a book about your music and the journey to legend status within the Underground World. Why will Juggalos like this book and why should they read it today?
Yes sir, the book is a big goal accomplished for us…We always talked about it over the years and to finally make it happen is an awesome feeling. Its a book that the average person who knows about struggle and being backed against the wall, with only few options to choose from will dig. We recommend everyone to check that Muthafucka out.
With the GOTJ, it seems like one big family reunion with great music and good times. Will you be walking around and speaking with fans?
Hell yeah!! We always walk around and kick it with everyone. That’s why everyone loves us because we are always accessible and we show love to everybody.
Will the brand new book be available for purchase and autographs?
Yes it definitely will be…
Any new merch coming out that will be on sale at the GOTJ?
O yeah fa sho! We will have plenty of fresh new PJB merch there…From cds, shirts, hoodies, hats and posters… Plenty to choose from.
We can’t wait to see Project Born perform on the Clown Drip Stage. Any parting words for Juggalos until the Gathering officially starts?
