Celebrating 6 Years of Empowering Independent Artists: Rox-Tv’s Journey in Supporting and Uplifting the Music Community

On February 23, Rox-Tv marks a significant milestone, celebrating 6 years of supporting and uplifting independent music artists. Founded in 2018 by Bobby Lee, also known as Bob Roxxx, Rox-Tv was born out of a deep-seated passion for music and a desire to create a platform that could make a difference in the lives of independent artists.

Bobby’s music journey began in 2001 when he, along with childhood friends Charles Haid and Ray Wood, formed the rap group “Disfunktional Phamily.” They released an album and performed at local shows, building a following in Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Cleveland. Their dynamic stage presence and innovative approach to hip-hop set them apart, earning them acclaim and recognition in the music scene. Despite challenges, Bobby and his bandmates remained committed to pushing the boundaries of their music, showcasing their versatility and creativity opening for a variety of national acts.

Bob’s time with Disfunktional Phamily not only honed his musical skills but also gave him valuable insights into the video, audio, and business aspects of the music industry. As an independent artist, he learned the importance of high-quality visuals and audio in enhancing a music project’s overall impact. He gained hands-on experience in video production, editing, and audio mixing, which would later prove instrumental in his work at Rox-Tv. Additionally, navigating the music business taught him about promotion, networking, and the importance of building strong relationships within the industry. These skills and knowledge would lay a solid foundation for Bob as he ventured into the world of music video production with Rox-Tv, combining his passion for music with his expertise in video and audio production.

After his initial foray into the music scene with Disfunktional Phamily, Bobby’s life took a different turn as he transitioned into more traditional roles. For nearly a decade, he worked in various jobs, including a stint at a telemarketing company, where he found stability but also felt a growing sense of unfulfillment. This period of his life, while providing financial security, left him yearning for something more meaningful in his career. It wasn’t until he experienced a physical setback due to an injury that Bobby had the chance to pause and reflect on his life’s direction. During this period of recovery, he revisited his passion for music, realizing that it was a crucial part of his identity and something he couldn’t ignore. This reflection would ultimately lead him back to the world of music, paving the way for his future endeavors in the industry

With newfound clarity and determination, Bobby set out to create Rox-Tv, initially envisioning it as a media outlet for independent artists. The early years were marked by Bobby and his friend Kasper attending local shows, filming highlights, and interviewing artists. Over the years, people joined and quit the team, some writing for us, some doing on-screen stuff. It was hard when there was little to no pay because of the fan base to the artists we followed being smaller. Despite facing challenges in attracting a wide audience, Bobby’s background in the underground rap scene provided Rox-Tv with a unique perspective and a dedicated following within the underground music scene.

Throughout 2018, Rox-Tv embraced every opportunity that came their way, leading them across the Midwest. In 2019, their journey continued as they supported artists and embarked on multiple tours, including those with Insane Clown Posse, among others. Rox-Tv even covered notable events such as the Gathering of the Juggalos and Austin, Texas’s South by Southwest festival.
