Unveiling Kung Fu Vampire: A Journey into the Heart of Music
In the pulsating realm of underground music, few artists command as much attention and admiration as Kung Fu Vampire. With a career spanning over two decades, this enigmatic figure has carved out a unique niche in the hip-hop landscape, blending elements of goth, horrorcore, and symphonic orchestration to create a sound that is unmistakably his own. But behind the theatrical persona and macabre imagery lies a deeply introspective artist whose music delves into the darkest corners of the human psyche while offering glimpses of hope and resilience.
Born and raised in San Jose, California, Kung Fu Vampire discovered his passion for music at an early age. Influenced by a diverse range of artists spanning from classical composers to underground rap legends, he began honing his craft in the local hip-hop scene, where he quickly gained recognition for his sharp lyricism and dynamic stage presence. As his reputation grew, so too did his ambition, leading him to embark on a journey that would take him from underground clubs to iconic venues like The Playboy Mansion and The Insane Clown Posse’s “Gathering.”

Now, as Kung Fu Vampire prepares to embark on a monumental tour in 2024, we had the privilege of sitting down with him to discuss his latest projects, artistic evolution, and the enduring legacy of his music. Join us as we delve into the mind of one of underground hip-hop’s most captivating figures and discover the man behind the myth.
Interview with Kung Fu Vampire:
Rox-Tv: Your album “Black Heart Machine” has been a significant milestone in your career. How do you feel this album has influenced your sound and artistic direction moving forward into 2024?
Kung Fu Vampire: I think I will be doing a lot more jazz fusion, and I’m hoping to create an entire 80s album with remakes of my favorite synth-pop songs of the 80s.
Rox-Tv: Your career in music often involves balancing artistic pursuits with personal sacrifices. How has your career impacted your personal life, and what sacrifices have you had to make to pursue your passion?
Kung Fu Vampire: I’ve basically given up the idea of having hobbies or getting seriously involved with anybody of the opposite sex due to being so busy and having such a unique schedule. But it has allowed me to be a full-time stay-at-home father, which is awesome and good for my daughter.

Rox-Tv: Your music is often described as a blend of goth and hip-hop, creating a unique style known as ‘Goth Hop.’ How does Goth Hop differ from horrorcore, and do you still consider yourself within this genre?
Kung Fu Vampire: Both are a bit of a mislabeling at this point. I am just an absolute hodgepodge and blender of all types of hip-hop. I was never a horrorcore artist and was introduced to that genre after I had already been very well-established. But I see the correlation. The goth-hop sound is more about orchestral instruments and operatic choruses, which differs a bit from horrorcore. I consider it more in the symphonic realm.
Rox-Tv: Your live shows have taken you to iconic venues like The Playboy Mansion and The Insane Clown Posse’s “Gathering.” What have been some of the most memorable moments from your live performances, and how have they shaped your approach to performing?
Kung Fu Vampire: Performing live is a strong point of ours and my favorite thing to do because it connects me directly to the people who listen to our music with a more personal touch. I feel that performing is the true testament of the quality of an artist. I approach live performances as works of art and constantly try to make the live show better to give somebody an audiovisual experience they’ll never forget. My main approach is to be in the best cardiovascular shape and to be able to sing in perfect key.

Rox-Tv: In addition to your music, you’ve also contributed to films and TV. Can you talk about some of your recent projects in these areas and how they complement your music career?
Kung Fu Vampire: I absolutely love acting and movies. I was recently a cartel gang member in a movie called “Four Hour Layover in Juarez,” and I have an upcoming film called “Scissors” where I portray a spicy mortician. I will most likely dive deeper into acting as time progresses.
Rox-Tv: As an artist with a strong visual aesthetic, how do you approach the visual aspects of your music, such as music videos and album artwork?
Kung Fu Vampire: I’m evolving in that arena. The music video is almost a dying medium, but we will always do really nice videos for the fans, even if it costs us money and makes us nothing. I always visualize the video when making a song.
Rox-Tv: Can you tell us more about your upcoming tour? What can fans expect from your next tour, and do you have any memorable moments or cities you’re particularly excited to visit?
Kung Fu Vampire: Our California tour with Tech N9ne is going to be insane. You can already imagine we will be doing all of the month of June on our headlining tour with support from Blu, 3ality, and Akuu, with my man Action Paxton on the drums and light show. We will be playing music from the last 21 years of my career.

Rox-Tv: Looking ahead in 2024, what are your goals and aspirations for your music career? Are there any new projects or collaborations in the works that you’re excited about?
Kung Fu Vampire: We are hoping to release a new Double Dragon album, which I am beyond ecstatic about, and I know my partner Bukshot is as well. Hopefully, some more singles with Action Paxton and Jazz Mafia
