Tonight ROX-TV takes a deep dive into the new video by C17’s HEXXX “Another Day” featuring Shaggy 2 Dope. The track and video are discussed in detail so get in the know.
Welcome back to the ROX-TV website. As always, we thank the returning readers and say hello to any first timers. Things have been heating up lately which is odd because the weather is starting to chill out. It seems like news is breaking almost on the weekly now with no signs of slowing down. I guess the future waits for no one after all. So tonight, we have a real nice chunk of content to break up for the plate. That’s right, the latest video drop from HEXXX is upon us and there is nothing left to do except sift through the devastation left in it’s wake. HEXXX is one of those cats that seems to know the perfect time to release some West Coast Wicked Shit on the public. I’ve been waiting for the new material since the “Demon Season” release. You may remember the deep dive we did on that album and if you were stoned or passed out, the link is included below.
In terms of delivering a dope product for the Juggalo Culture, Demon Season did not disappoint. The total viewership of the Demon Season material is well over 300,000 views combined and that to me…is Juggalo Gold. Shit, getting ten people to do anything can be a challenge so congratulations are in order. I knew after Demon Season hit, HEXXX would probably hit the road and do some touring…which I knew would probably push out new material for a bit. I understand the wait. You gotta marinate before firing up the coals. Some things just take time, but for a fan, the wait can be tough. But you know what, we used to wait back in the old days, sometimes for months to get some news, so everything today is gravy. Trust me. So anyways, the track is called “Another Day” and features one half of the Insane Clown Posse, Shaggy 2 Dope. I’ve been a fan of Shaggs for decades and whenever he does anything…I’m going to check it out. So…I guess there is nothing left to do but fire up YouTube and let it rip. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give to you the deep dive on “Another Day”…Enjoy…

Right off the bat, I hear that wonderful old school dopeness. A glorious sample from those golden years of hip hop…one of the most recognizable beats of all time. That stone cold EPMD sample from “You gots to Chill” has been with me for three decades and counting. There aren’t many tracks that have that kind of staying power…so there you go. Hearing “Another Day” by HEXXX has literally taken me back in time, in under ten seconds. Not bad for the opener. Real G’s will know the history, the shit that came before, and pay homage. It’s the way things have always been done by the ones that know what they are doing. The keepers of the flame and the passing of the torch. When it is done properly, history flows like a vast river waiting to replenish the Nile.
For the record, the images on the screen start coming very fast. Imagery that I love. Right out of the gate, we got four homeboys rolling in a tough looking Chevy. Within these 9 seconds, I can literally feel the California sun burning the top of my head. If I was high enough, I could probably smell the ocean too. I think I caught a zip from that Ini Kamoze track “Here comes the hotstepper” tossed in for good measure. The screen flickers and we see the perfect alchemy melding of present and future…holding court near the infamous 6th Street Bridge in Los Angeles.
Known also as the 6th Street Viaduct, this bridge connects the Arts District in downtown LA with the legendary Paredon Blanco neighborhood (Boyle). Why does this part of town matter? It’s one of the most prolific Chicano neighborhoods in the City of Angels. The Boyle Heights Neighborhood is so rich in history and Chicano culture, it would probably take a few days to deep dive that area. Some other time. But I think that no one can overlook the cultural significance the area has for HEXXX and I’m sure it played into the decision-making process for dope locations to film at. HEXXX is a firm supporter of Chicano Juggalos and makes a point to highlight that culture every step of the way. It’s a beautiful thing. Sometimes the first introduction to a new country is music. I couldn’t imagine travelling hundreds or thousands of miles to get here, for whatever reason.
Anything familiar, once a person got here would be a God send. For Chicano’s arriving from south of the border, to see people that look like you and are celebrating the culture, it’s got to be a warming feeling. Especially for teenagers trying to assimilate into American Culture, which is a pain in the ass in it’s own right, but everyone eventually gets around to it. The American Story, being told everyday whether the greater country at large knows it or not. California is home to a large population of our Chicano brothers and sisters, just as Southwest Detroit functions in Michigan. Historically, Insane Clown Posse has always had a special relationship with Southwest Detroit, celebrating Chicano culture, themes, and neighborhoods in their music. The fusion of HEXXX and Shaggy 2 Dope is brilliant and the music that these two artists created on this track is a benchmark for what happens when quality gets cut with quality. Basically you get a lyrical and style overdose. And no one will ever complain about that.
As far as HEXXX goes, when he starts up, it’s like nothing is going to stop him. This freight train of West Coast Wicked Shit is so needed right now. More than ever actually. Some of the greatest times in my life were paired up with that CALI sound. I’ve made it out there a few times back in 1996 and in 1998 respectively, and this music takes me there instantly. There is something so intoxicating about the West Coast sound and maybe that’s because I’m from somewhere else…maybe it’s because I came up with the golden era of West Coast gangster rap. Whatever the reason, this music is like an iced cold forty ouncer on a summer day. Some things just work perfectly. This track appears to be one of them. This direction of getting back to the more thuggish side of the Dark Carnival is also a God send. When I was a kid in the 810, back in the early to mid 1990’s, this is the style that we embraced. The gang shit was hot across the country and Detroit was no different either. I’ve always leaned more into the piece of the pie that presented proper G shit and style. Could it have come at a better time? Fuck no.
I think that this track is only the beginning too. With a track as tough as this one, I’m sure the rest of the album is going to be over the top. I haven’t even come up with a word yet to describe it but give me time. As far as “Tales of a Cursed G” go, the album is dropping in days and should be the clincher for the summer’s end. Keep checking back as more details roll out from the album drop.
C17: Another Victory
HEXXX: Another solid installment
Shaggy 2 Dope: Continuing a legacy of excellent music making.
Verdict: Must be in the collection
